The Court Service is an executive agency of the Lord Chancellor's Department, which has its own website.This covers policy, legislation and the Magistrates' courts.
The purpose of the Court Service is the delivery of justice. The Agency is responsible for the running of most of the courts and tribunals in England & Wales i.e. Crown, County, Appeals, and provides the necessary services to the judiciary and court users to ensure its impartial and efficient operation. The Agency also has responsibility for advice to the Lord Chancellor on his responsibilities in relation to magistrates' courts although they remain a locally managed service as defined in statute.As the key service-delivery arm of the Department, the Court Service plays an important part in implementing the Lord Chancellor's agenda for a modern justice system.
